Numbers below the lyrics are to learn the songs by note degree for piano and ear-training.   Learning the song by number, enables one to play the song in any key.   (For example, in the key of C, 1 = C; 2 = D, etc.   In the key of G, 1= G, 2 = A, etc.  Also for beginner songs only using 5 notes, the numbers also correspond usually to the number of the finger being played.)
