West Indies Folk Song

These are words more suitable for children from the popular folk song.  Normally, in English, one would say, “He sings..” but this is the way it has been done in the West Indies.  It adds the charm of the Caribbean islands.

Have you heard the song of the mockingbird?

Have you heard the song of the mockingbird?

When you sad and blue, then he mock at you

He sing high above, oh, to sing he love

He sing funny song, make you laugh along

Make you sing a song, too.

Other songs about birds:  IN THE SKY , ODE TO THE DODO BIRD, THE BARRED OWL and A BIZARRE, BOUNCING BIRD.

  1. I loved this song at little school around 45 years ago. Couldn’t find it anywhere and I couldn’t remember the words just the 1st 2 lines. Thank you. No one else seems to remember it. Thank you. Xx
